The latest study was conducted by a team of Spanish and published in Molecular Nutrition & Food Researchbulan January. They concluded that cocoa (substances that are found in chocolate) can act as a defense system that could stop the cells involved in the process of cell proliferation, which is a process that resulted in the formation of tumors.
Research carried out by feeding mice with a form of cocoa by 12% shows an increase in antioxidant defenses and decrease oxidative damage caused by carcinogens (substances that can cause cancer), and reduced risk of colon cancer. That is because cocoa is rich in flavonoids and antioxidants.
Though rarely heard echoes, according to the World Health Organization, colon cancer is one of the world's largest cause of death after lung cancer, stomach cancer and liver cancer. In addition to preventing colon cancer, according to a study last year in the British Medical Journal, chocolate also can reduce the risk of liver cancer formation by 37%.
